Demopolis commits eight errors in two games, drops to 0-3

The opening week of the 2018 season proved to be one Demopolis would soon like to forget. The Tigers sit at 0-3 on the young campaign after dropping a pair of games in their annual early-season tournament.

Demopolis fell to Sipsey Valley 6-3 at home Friday night to set the weekend off on a sour note.

Demopolis had two batters reach on errors to open the bottom of the second. Henry Overmyer later drove in Tyler Elmore with a grounder to second, allowing the Tigers to cut their early deficit to 3-1.

Sipsey went on to balloon that lead to 6-1. Demopolis looked to claw its way out of that hole in the bottom of the seventh.

Davis Petrey opened with a leadoff walk ahead of a Charles Casper single. Petrey scored on a passed ball to narrow it to 6-2. Two batters later, Peyton Geary singled in Casper to set the final score.

Demopolis mustered only four hits in the game and committed a quartet of fielding errors.

Saturday morning’s contest with Jackson proved no better as Demopolis committed four errors and scratched out only two hits on its way to a 5-0 loss. Hudson Holley and Petrey accounted for the only hits in the game.

Demopolis returns to action next Saturday when it takes on Trinity Presbyterian and Montgomery Academy.
