Demopolis BOE cancels January meeting

The Demopolis City Schools Board of Education will not hold its regularly scheduled January meeting due to a conflict with the Alabama Association of Schools Boards Winter District Meeting.

An email from DCS Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin stated Friday that the meeting, which had been moved from its traditional spot on the third Monday of the month to Jan. 26 due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, would be cancelled outright and that all applicable business would be carried forward to the February meeting.

“It is acceptable to cancel a Board Meeting as long as there is not a line item on the Agenda requiring action where time is of the essence, which there is no applicable line item in January 2015,,” Griffin said via the email. “In addition to this fact, AASB plans to discuss the upcoming Legislative Session and funding for the 2015-2016 school year at the Winter District Meeting, therefore attendance is essential for Board Members and Superintendents.”

The board’s Feb. 16 meeting is set for 5:15 p.m.
