Demopolis baseball sees season end in Beauregard

Beauregard used big innings in the second and third to fell Demopolis 10-1 Saturday in the decisive third game of their Class 5A second round playoff doubleheader.

Beauregard used three singles and two walks in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Two hit-by-pitches, three hits and a walk by the Hornets in the top of the third inning stretched the lead to 8-0 and put Demopolis squarely in the rearview mirror. Two singles and a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth advanced the Hornet lead to 9-0.

Demopolis got off the deck in the bottom of the sixth inning when Hunter Colyar doubled with two outs. R.J. Cox followed with a single before Colyar scored on an error to cut the deficit to 9-1. Jonathon Lewis singled but the Tigers could draw no closer.

The Tigers needed four pitchers and 124 pitches to get through the contest while Beauregard countered with Thomas Howell, who struck out three batters over a complete game effort that saw him walk two and allow only one unearned run.

Demopolis wraps its season at 19-8.
