Demopolis High alum and Sam Houston State junior Shadijah Moore helped her team record its first win of the season Wednesday when she recorded her first career double-double in a 61-54 victory over Texas Southern.

“Just having a positive mindset and being ready to play from the tip,” Moore said of the key to her success against Texas Southern.

Moore, who spent her first two collegiate seasons at Shelton State, finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Both totals were the high marks of the season for her thus far.

“The greatest challenge has been adjusting more quickly to how fast the pace of practice, games and school are,” Moore said of the challenges that have faced her since her move to Huntsville, Texas. “It is key for me to stay focused and work hard everyday.”

The 6-2 transfer, who also dished out two assists in the win, is averaging 4.5 points per game through the first six contests and is leading with a team high six rebounds per contest.

The Texas Southern performance is just a glimpse into the ever-developing ability of Moore, who has worked to improve her game since leaving her Tuscaloosa junior college squad.

“I have learned how to use my athleticism during the right times,” Moore said. “My primary goal is to become consistent and find my role on this new team and help in anyway that I can.”
