Demopolis alum earns OVC Player of the Week

JSU JamesBRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State’s DaMarcus James has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Sunday.

James carried the ball 23 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns as Jacksonville State went on the road and topped No. 22 UT Martin 41-27. James scored on an eight-yard touchdown three minutes into the game, marking the first FCS team to score against the Skyhawks in the first half this season.

With the Gamecocks leading by seven points in the fourth quarter, James added a one-yard touchdown run and then four minutes later scored on a 50-yard scamper to put the game out of reach. Overall, the Demopolis, Ala., native averaged 8.0 yards/carry and set a JSU school record by scoring three touchdowns in three-straight games.

James now has eight career 100-yard rushing games, which is tops among active OVC players. James ranks fourth nationally in rushing touchdowns (10) and 34th nationally in rushing (93.8 yards/game).

Jacksonville State returns to action this week by hosting Tennessee State on Saturday for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Burgess-Snow Field and tickets are available at JSUGamecockSports.com.
