Demopolis 10U team playing in semi-finals

The last remaining team from the Demopolis Youth Football League will play in the West Alabama Youth Football Association semi-finals Saturday when the 10u Tigers travel to Central High School to take on Northport at 3 p.m.

The Tigers got to the semi-finals with a 26-0 win over Central last Saturday at Tiger Stadium when Demopolis served as the host site for second round action in the South Division.

The 10U Tigers opened the scoring with a 29-yard touchdown run by Tim Thurman to take a 6-0 lead. Thurman soon found the end zone again from 33 yards out to stretch the lead to 12-0 before Peyton Stevenson completed a two-point conversion pass to make it 14-0

Thurman’s third touchdown of the game came on a 45-yard scamper to stretch the lead to 20-0. Jay Jones scored the final touchdown for the 26-0 advantage. C.J. Sandridge recovered two fumbles in the game for the Tigers.

Other action saw the Demopolis 8U team fall 7-6 to Greensboro in the first game of the day. The lone Tiger score of that contest came on a 46-yard touchdown run by Mason James near the end of the third quarter.

The Demopolis 12U team went on to lose to Central 20-14 in the final game of the day. Demopolis got its first touchdown on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Antonio Besteder to Alexander Besteder. The Tigers then got a 2-point conversion pass from Chance McVay to Alexander Besteder.

The Tigers second score of the day came from the same Besteder to Besteder connection when the duo hooked up for a 55-yard touchdown pass with 40.8 seconds left in the opening half. A Dee Walker fumble recovery with 1:12 left in the opening half set up the second Demopolis score.
