The Demopolis Area Business Council is giving away an iPad, a Jawbone speaker and numerous gift certificates to local businesses.

The program, which closes Dec. 20, has encouraged Demopolis citizens to spend local through a campaign that allows shoppers to send in pictures of their receipts any time they spend at least $25 at a local business. Each picture qualifies as an entry into a drawing for the two top prizes and weekly drawings for gift certificates.

The first winners of the gift certificate drawings were Elizabeth Morris Lindsay and John Scales.

Lindsay shopped at Lindsey’s Florist to enter the contest and earned a $100 gift certificate to Fleming Photography.

Scales entered the contests with a receipt from Batter Up and earned a $100 gift certificate to Batter Up.

The Visa gift card is provided by Robertson Bank while F&F Drugs is providing the iPad and Marengo Insurance is supplying the Jawbone.

As of Monday, 375 receipts had been entered for a total value of more than $70,000.
