In the harrowing world of healthcare billing and reimbursement, Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital’s Billing Department is committed to taking care of patients’ insurance claims promptly and accurately.

“Our mission is to provide excellent internal and external customer service by efficiently processing patients’ insurance claims timely,” said Department Manager San Jones. “Submitting insurance claims to providers, reviewing provider remittances to confirm accurate payments and following up with providers to resolve unpaid claims are all part of our effort to make things as easy as possible for our patients.”

One of the most important aspects of the department’s mission is “assisting our financial counselors by answering patient billing questions” in order to make the payment process as easy and convenient as possible for the patient, she said.

To accomplish the task, Jones has assembled a proficient staff of eight employees with more than 65 years combined service to the hospital.

“While helping ensure that our facility can continue daily operations by maintaining adequate cash flow, we are also very much focused on internal and external customer service,” Jones added. “Each day we interact with staff in all areas of our facility, and strive to maintain positive relationships with both our internal and external customers.”

The Billing Department’s service to the community reaches far beyond the walls of the facility.

“The employees of the Billing Department are also members of the BWWMH Relay for Life team, participate in both the Tombigbee Healthcare Authority Wellness Works and Scaleback Alabama, and the Demopolis Middle School Career Tech Job Shadowing program,” Jones noted.

In recognition of the department’s commitment to excellence, the Billing Department was named Bryan Whitfield’s Department of the Year in 2013 and was a finalist for the award in 2014.
