BWWMH Auxiliary hands out service awards

The Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recognized eight of their members with awards for hours of service earned during the past quarter on August 8 during their regular meeting.

Carolyn Bell, a member of the Auxiliary since June 14, was awarded a 150 hour pin. During her first year she chaired the group’s very successful Love Lights campaign and received the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award this past spring.

Jan McDonald, who celebrates her one year anniversary this month, also received the 150 hour pin. She is currently serving as the group’s Yearbook Committee Chairman.

The youngest member of the group, VolunTEEN Lauren Osburn, of Linden, received a pin for 150 hours of service. The Marengo Academy student joined the group on September 13, 2012 works in the hospital’s gift shop and other areas.

A 1,000 hour bar went to both Carol Bell and Alice Washburn. Bell, who joined the Auxiliary in June 2009, has received a President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award three times and the Silver Award once since joining the Auxiliary. She has also chaired several blood drives for the group

Washburn, who has been a member since October 2010, currently chairs the Courtesy Committee and has received the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze for the past four years.

Hilda Elmore, a member since January 1999, received a 2,500 hour bar during the meeting. She is an eight-time recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award.

Receiving a 3,500 hour bar was Daphne Glaser. She joined the group in May 1994 and has received the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award three times and the Silver Award five times. She has served twice as the Auxiliary’s vice president

Betty Baxley hit the 4,500 hour mark and was presented with a bar to add to her pin. Since joining the organization in September 1990, Baxley has served one term as treasurer, three terms as secretary and four terms as vice president of the group. She was chosen as the group’s Volunteer of the Year in both 2001 and 2012. She was recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award four times and the Silver Award four times. Last year she was awarded the prestigious President’s Call To Service Award for lifetime achievement as a volunteer.
