Boyce Freeman

Boyce Keller Freeman age 87 passed away October 13, 2014 at Providence Hospital. He was born August 25, 1927 in Brooksville, FL to Fred Maxwell Freeman, Sr. and Dovie Freeman Carver of Lamison, AL. Until her death in 2002 Boyce’s sister, Dovie Clanton of Thomasville was guardian for Boyce. She was succeeded by her son and Boyce’s nephew, Donnie Clanton of Thomasville. Boyce had an angelic early childhood, but at age 3 or 4 he was stricken with a rare blood disease which left him brain damaged. His older sister, Clara Gene died at age 5 of the same problem. Boyce was not physically impaired and in many respects he led a normal life. He loved music and as a child he enjoyed playing a harmonica. However, he did require constant attention. For the past 23 years he has lived in the private home of Mrs. Rondi Wilkins and her husband in Citronelle, AL. Mrs. Wilkins is the caregiver for several disadvantaged persons. She acts as a surrogate mother and provides a wonderful home with loving care for her charges. Boyce’s many years with Mrs. Wilkins were happy ones. Boyce is survived by one brother, Donald Freeman of Vero Beach, FL; 17 nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Rondi Wilkins at 17746 Blankinchip Road, Citronelle, AL 36522. Graveside funeral services will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia, AL on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Aaron Carpenter, pastor of Central Baptist Church in Dixons Mills, AL officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Rondi Wilkins, Nancy Brown, Dana Dixon, Melba Causey, & Volunteers of America.
