Black fans 10 in Lady Bulldog win

Sweet Water’s Emily Black was almost untouchable Monday in a 3-0 win over Choctaw County. Black tossed a complete game shutout, holding the Tigers to three hits and one walk while striking out 10 in the effort.

Despite her pitching dominance, Black still saw her team scuffling through a scoreless tie until the the Sweet Water offense scratched three runs together. Bailey Brunson doubled to center to score Kamae Retic and Emily Black, putting the Lady Bulldogs up 2-0. Charlie Sturdivant then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Brunson and give Black some breathing room for the game’s final six outs.

Choctaw County threatened in the home half of the seventh when it loaded the bases before Black shut the door for the win.

Retic went 3-for-4 with a run scored out of the Lady Bulldogs’ leadoff spot. Black finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Brunson was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Sara Irvin went 2-for-3 with a triple while Sturdivant drove in a run.

Sweet Water is set to play at Demopolis Tuesday.
