Betty Jean Duke

Betty Jean Duke age 87 of Demopolis, AL died December 27, 2016 at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 26, 1929 in Tyler, AL to Wardie Lamar and Gray Godwin. She was a former seamstress for HA Satin for fourteen years and a machine operator for James River Paper Corp. for seventeen years. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Waurine Hammond of Demopolis, AL; four brothers, Thomas (Linda) Godwin of Pine Hill, AL; Richard (Sue) Godwin of Prattville, AL; Jack Godwin of Foley, AL; and Durant Godwin of Oregon; two sisters, Eugenia Rice of Montgomery, AL; and Judy Ford of Selma, AL; sister-in-law, Dot Holt of Montgomery, AL; two grandsons, Alan (Patricia) Hammond, and Terry (Meredith) Hammond, two great grandsons, Noah Hammond and Matthew Hammond.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 12 years, Webster Hall, her second husband of 54 years, Martin Duke, her parents, Wardie Lamar and Gray Ward Godwin, two brothers, Lamar Godwin and David Godwin, three sisters, Helen Sheffield, Frances Louise Wilkinson, and Joann Parden.

Visitation will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm service time with Rev. Daniel Gandy officiating. Burial will be in the Old Octagon Cemetery in Linden, AL.

In lieu of flowers the family request that everyone that knew her take five minutes to pay it forward. In memory of Betty do something to let someone know that they are special to you.
