Alyssa Martinez is the 2013 Miss Junior Christmas on the River

Twenty-two beautiful girls competed for the title of Miss Junior Christmas on the River 2013 tonight at the Demopolis Civic Center. Van Kelly was the Master of Ceremonies and announced each young lady, giving them a chance to shine. Showing their beauty, poise and personality, the girls were cut from twenty-two to ten and finally to five. Mr. Kelly announced the judges decision to a very eager and excited crowd.

Fourth alternate was Harley Blake Johnston, a seventh grader at Demopolis Middle School. Harley was wearing a beautiful sea foam green ball gown. Shaelin Allise Jones was awarded third alternate wearing a sparkling white chiffon gown. Shaelin is in the eighth grade at DMS. Also from Demopolis Middle School was eighth grader Mary-McClain Colgrove who was chosen second alternate. Mary-McClain was wearing a vintage inspired pink gown encrusted with stones. First alternate was Marengo Academy’s very own seventh grader, Claudia Graycee Peppenhorst. Claudia was wearing a two tone light green and yellow off the shoulder gown. Finally, Alyssa Martinez was announced as Miss Junior Christmas on the River 2013, wear a white chiffon flowing gown with red petal detailing.

Alyssa is the twelve year old daughter of JC and Ana Martinez. She attends Demopolis Middle School where she is a member of the Beta Club, on the All-A Honor Roll and was invited to the Duke Tip program for being academically gifted. Martinez also plays the piano and softball and loves to ride horses, bake and paint. When asked what she thought when her name was called out as the winner, she stated, “I was so shocked,  ecstatic and my eyes teared up. I felt so blessed.” Alyssa is very excited to be riding in the Christmas on the River Parade this year and to be able to crown next year’s winner.

Top ten not listed above were Taylor Nicole Langley, Mary Kendall Glass, BreAnna Brasfield Reid, Riley Elizabeth Rynolds and Amelia Ruth Harrison.
