It is little secret that Jakoby Aldridge is a talented running back. Aldridge underscored that fact again last Friday night against Flomaton despite sitting for a significant portion of the contest while his team shifted into cruise control.

Aldridge toted the ball 17 times for 173 yards and a quartet of touchdown runs that covered 5, 12, 24 and 6 yards respectively.

The Bulldogs utilize a bevy of running backs, relegating Aldridge to the lead role of a talented committee that has carried the team to an unbeaten region record through four 1A, Region 1 contests.

A Jacksonville State commit, Aldridge has already amassed 1,026 yards and 13 touchdowns on only 118 carries this season, an average of 8.69 yards per carry. Aldridge is also finding the end zone at a clip of once every nine rushing attempts.

And as eye-popping as those stats may be, imagine if Aldridge had not sat out half of two of his team’s games. That fact means that his stats are across five full games of action. Had Aldridge’s kept the foot on the gas for four quarters, it is safe to say he may be on pace to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark before the regular season comes to an end.

As is, he has still done plenty to establish himself as perhaps the most under appreciated back in the state, a fact that may change in December at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.

Aldridge’s most recent efforts were recognized Tuesday night by the crew of the ESPN 104.9 Coaches Show, which dubbed Aldridge the Player of the Week for his four touchdown outburst.

Aldridge received a commemorative T-shirt and spent time with the ESPN 104.9 crew at Batter Up in Demopolis Tuesday night.
