Abrams homers twice in one inning as Demopolis pounds DCHS

Elly Brown, Alex Abrams, Abbey Latham and Kendall Hannah totaled six home runs for Demopolis in a 21-0 rout of Dallas County Thursday.

Demopolis High School moved to 2-0 in Class 5A, Area 7 play with a 21-0 road romp over Dallas County Thursday.

The Lady Tigers hung 15 runs on the board in the first inning on its way to the dominating victory. Courtney Smith led off the game with a single before scoring on an Elly Brown RBI double. Abbey Latham followed with a single to plate Brown for the 2-0 lead. Bria Brown singled to put runners on first and second. Two batters later, Kayla Montz reached on an error, allowing Latham and Kendall Hannah to score for the 4-0 advantage. Montz then scored on a passed ball. Alex Abrams followed with a homer to left to plate Taylor Smith for the 7-0 lead.

Four batters later, Latham homered to center to score Napoleon Roberson and Elly Brown. Montz later singled home Bria Brown and Hannah to open the lead to 12-0. Taylor Smith doubled Montz in to make it 13-0. Abrams capped the scoring in the inning by hitting her second homer of the frame to drive in Smith for the 15-0 lead.

Elly Brown doubled with one out in the second. Latham followed with her second homer of the game to make it 17-0. After a Bria Brown single, Kendall Hannah homered over center to put Demopolis up 19-0. Roberson later singled to drive in Montz and make it 20-0. Elly Brown capped the scoring in the third with a solo home run.

Courtney Smith finished 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Elly Brown was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, two RBIs and four runs scored. Latham went 3-for-3 with two home runs, six RBIs, a stolen base and three runs scored.

Bria Brown went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Hannah finished 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs, a stolen base and three runs scored. Montz went 1-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Taylor Smith was 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Abrams was 2-for-2 with a pair of homers, four RBIs and two runs scored. Roberson went 1-for-2 with one RBI and a run scored.

Montz pitched the complete game shutout, scattering two hits and striking out five in the three-inning affair.

Demopolis (12-3) is set to play in the Tombigbee Tournament over the weekend.
