A.L. Johnson takes 36-22 win

URIAH – A.L. Johnson’s Eagles sandwiched a solid running game around two long touchdown passes to take a 36-22 victory over J.U. Blacksher Friday night.

The Eagles got on the board in the second quarter on Ladarius Carr’s three-yard run, and boosted the halftime margin to 14-0 with a 65-yard pass from Carr to Warren Boykin.

In the third, the Carr-Boykin connection struck again for 55 yards and the touchdown, while Lawrence Burrell put the game away for A.L. Johnson with a 33-yard TD run in the third and a 27-yard touchdown run in the fourth period.

“We’re beginning to come around,” said ALJ head coach Mose Jones, “especially starting in the second half of last week’s game. Our secondary is playing really well, and on offense our passing game is beginning to improve.”

The Eagles are now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in Class A, Region 1, and will host non-region foe Ellwood Christian Friday night.

“We watched them Thursday night against Autaugaville,” said Jones. “They’re a little small up front, but they’re a pretty good ball club.”
