ALJ sweeps Marengo

THOMASTON — Marengo High and A.L. Johnson tangled in area basketball action Friday night with the Eagles sweeping a trio of games.

The junior varsity squads opened the night with a 52-35 ALJ win. Jeremiah Smith led ALJ with 21 points while De’Aunde Bridges had 13 points.

Roosevelt Thompson led Marengo with 16 points, 14 rebounds and five steals. Christion Wright had 10 points, 13 rebound and two steals with the Panthers. The loss dropped the MHS JV to 3-4.

The Lady Panthers (2-5, 0-1) got blown out by the Lady Eagles 62-30. J’Mya Hall had 19 points, six rebounds, six steals, one assist and one block for MHS. Tiffany Barber led ALJ with 24 points while Jamela Jones added 10 points.

The varsity boys capped the night with ALJ downing Marengo 78-58, dropping the MHS varsity to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the area.

A.LJ saw Shermon Kennedy dump in 21 points and Tywon Scott add 20. Michael Kennedy led MHS with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Justice Irvin had 14 points, 14 rebounds, an assist and two blocks. Cordarius Pritchett added 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, five steals and a block.
